VLE was developed by TrevNet Virtual Designs, a web design and internet software development firm from California. Trevor Albrecht (Founder, President) and Jay Peters (Vice President), developed VLE in an effort to increase productivity in offering their clients a more reliable, less expensive alternative to manual link exchange campaigns.

TrevNet was founded in 1996 and has since then developed hundreds of websites and consulted with some of the largest online players.
